For 2008 Bontrager has improved the rear wheel lacing pattern of Race, Race Lite, and Race X Lite road wheels. While the previous versions of these wheels used 24 spokes, radially laced on the non-drive side and two-cross on the drive side, the new version uses 20 spokes laced in a single-cross pattern on both sides. Where the old design only had six pulling spokes (all of them on the drive side), the new single-cross pattern creates five pulling spokes on each side of the hub, for a total of ten pulling spokes. This 66% increase in pulling spokes improves durability and lateral stiffness under power.
