Road Wheels FAQs

Frequently asked questions about the Bontrager family of road wheels

Q: What are the weight limits of Bontrager Road Wheels?
A: Despite the exceptionally light weight and low spoke count wheels, Bontrager does not have any weight restrictions for use. All of our wheelsystems must pass the same durability and impact standards prior to production, regardless of intended use or rider weight.

Keep in mind, Bontrager offers one of the larger wheel offerings in the world. This is because different riders may find better performance on different wheels. A really big rider may ultimately be better served with a more laterally stiff wheel than an exceptionally light pair.

Q: Given the new Race X Lite and Race Lite wheels, does that mean new and different replacement parts are needed?
A: Fortunately, no. The internals of the Race X Lite and Race Lite hubs are the same as last year's. The spokes are standard j-bend spokes for easy replacement. The nipples (while red) are standard nipples as well.

Q: Any pro teams using Bontrager Road Wheels?
A: 2007 saw a record number of professional cyclists spinning Bontrager wheels. In addition to the Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team, Toyota-United, Kelly Benefits-Midwest, and Timex Triathletes were on Bontrager wheels. It was a mix of Aeolus, Race XXX Lite, and the high performance aluminum wheels.

Q: Do you offer Campagnolo-compatible wheels?
A: Yes, many of our road wheels are Campagnolo compatible. Visit the Road Wheels section of the website and reference the Hub column of the description for individual models.

Q: Are your Race XXX Lite Lite wheels strong enough to be ridden every day, or are they just for races?
A: The OCLV carbon rim on the Race XXX Lite Lite wheel actually tests stronger than any other rim that we have ever produced. Feel free to ride them every day. Please remember to periodically evaluate the condition of your wheels for wear or damage.
